Local security in Remuera
Remuera is one of Auckland’s largest residential heritage suburbs, with substantial period homes on streets like Victoria Avenue, Arney Road, Portland Road, and Lucerne Road, along with later 1950s–70s family housing through the Greenlane Road area. The Remuera Road village is the main commercial strip with cafés, professional services, banks, and boutique retail; the Greenlane intersection adds a separate cluster of retail and offices. Several of Auckland’s largest schools sit in or near the suburb (St Kentigern, Diocesan, King’s, Selwyn). Property values are high and many homes contain valuables that justify a more deliberate system design than a simple four-camera package.
Comsys reaches Remuera from Glendene in around 30 minutes via SH16 and Khyber Pass / Remuera Road outside peak. Most Remuera residential work is on larger sections (700–1,500 m² is typical) with a higher proportion of detached garages, sleepouts, pool areas, and gated driveways than the inner-city suburbs. We hold stock for Hikvision, Dahua, Axis, Paxton, Inner Range, and Aiphone — the brand mix Auckland integrators use for high-value residential and small-commercial work.
What we install for Remuera properties
- CCTV surveillance — HD and 4K IP cameras with NVR storage, ColorVu / WizMind low-light cameras for street-facing coverage, remote viewing on mobile.
- Access control — PIN, prox card, mobile credential, and biometric readers from Paxton, HID, and ZKTeco for offices, apartment lobbies, and shared workspaces.
- Intruder alarm systems — wired and wireless panels with PIR / dual-tech sensors, glassbreak detection, and app control. Optional connection to a third-party NZ monitoring station.
- Intercom systems — video intercoms for single-door homes, IP intercom packages for apartment buildings (2N, Aiphone, Comelit).
- Security consultation — site assessments, design documentation for tenders, and as-built drawings for body corporate handover.
Remuera home security
A typical Remuera residential install is 6–10 IP cameras on a larger section — front-and-driveway pair, both side passages, back-of-house turret, pool or back-yard overview if relevant, and turrets covering detached garages or sleepouts. ColorVu / Full-Color cameras give usable colour identification on the street and rear-access sides at night. Wired alarm panels (Paradox EVO or Bosch) suit larger Remuera homes because they can accommodate 16–32 zones for the various rooms, sliders, and external doors that a substantial property has.
Many Remuera homes have a gated driveway or pedestrian entry; we add an intercom (Aiphone GT-DMB-N or 2N) at the gate with an internal handset or app, and tie the gate operator into the access-control system so the same credential opens the pedestrian gate, the vehicle gate, and the front door. For pool areas we specify cameras with privacy masking over neighbouring properties and an alarm zone covering the pool gate that complies with NZ pool-fencing requirements (the Building Act).
Remuera business security
For Remuera Road and Greenlane village retail, the standard scope is a discreet entry identification camera, a till camera with timestamp overlay, a back-of-house camera, and an alarm with glassbreak on the shopfront. Professional services tenancies (legal, accounting, real estate, dental) along Remuera Road typically use Paxton Net2 on the main door and any client-record or treatment room, alarm with PIRs and door contacts, and 2–4 cameras covering reception and any client-facing areas.
For the larger schools and church / clubhouse properties around the suburb, the brief is broader: Paxton or HID access on staff and treatment-room doors with audited logs, perimeter CCTV at gates and approaches, identification cameras at reception, and a panic / duress configuration on the alarm panel. We’ve produced design documentation for body corporate, school board, and trust handovers; happy to do the same here.

Remuera security FAQ
How many cameras does a substantial Remuera home need?
Most Remuera residential systems are 6–10 cameras: front-and-driveway pair, both side passages, back-of-house, an internal turret, garage / sleepout coverage, and either a pool-area or rear-section overview. Substantial sections with separate sleepouts or pool houses can run to 12–14. NVR storage is typically sized for 60–90 days of recording given the higher absolute property value and longer absences (overseas travel, weekend properties).
Can the gate intercom and the front door use the same key card?
Yes. With Paxton Net2 or similar systems, a single mobile credential or prox card opens the pedestrian gate, the vehicle gate (via gate-operator integration), and the front door. Family members can have individual credentials with different time-zone permissions; service providers (cleaner, gardener, builder) can have temporary credentials that automatically expire.
How do you handle pool-area cameras and the Building Act?
NZ pool-fencing rules under the Building Act require the pool to be effectively fenced and the gate to be self-closing. CCTV doesn’t replace the fence, but an alarm zone on the pool gate (with chime mode during the day and full alarm at night) gives an additional layer. Pool-area cameras must have privacy masking over any neighbouring property and the public street if visible. Footage retention is sized to the property’s typical use pattern.
Will my Remuera alarm work while we’re overseas for a month?
Yes. Modern panels (Paradox, Inner Range, Bosch, Ajax) report over IP / 4G to either a third-party NZ monitoring station or directly to the homeowner’s app. Battery backup covers short power outages; for longer trips we recommend pairing the alarm with the third-party monitoring service so dispatch happens whether or not you’re reachable. We don’t run the monitoring centre ourselves but we’ll set up the comms path.
